Global Policy seminar with Dr. Amit Mitra - "Indian investment in Africa"

LSE, London, Wednesday, 30th June 2010

There is a surge of interest by emerging economies in investing in Africa. However, crucial questions remain about how an emerging economy like India will succeed in implementing its business plans in a developing continent like Africa where most of the developed economies are failing to make inroads. Dr. Amit Mitra, the Secretary General of FICCI, who works with the Government of India on key policy issues in promoting trade and industry abroad will shed some light on these questions in discussing the nature of Indian investments in Africa and possible consequence for shifts in the balance of global economic power.

Dr. Mitra has a PhD from Duke University, and is a distinguished Indian economist, having been awarded the Padma Shri by the government of India for promoting trade and industry. He also chairs the expert committee on PPP for India Railway and chairs many national and international boards in addition to heading India's Apex Business Chamber and the economic think tank FICCI.
