Reviewing the Governance Report

Why are so few of today’s global issues getting settled? Are we ready to handle future financial and fiscal crises? Which governance innovations can actually contribute and how can we measure our progress? The Governance Report 2013 highlights these challenges, seeks governance innovations and introduces a new generation of governance indicators.

Global Policy and the Hertie School of Governance are pleased to announce that The Governance Report 2013 was launched at the Hertie School of Governance in Berlin on 22 February 2013. In step with the launch, Global Policy has commissioned a series of reviews of the document by leading practitioners and academics that will be made available below.

The Report focuses upon the changing conditions of governance, the challenges and opportunities involved, and the implications and recommendations that present themselves to analysts and policymakers. Indeed, few would doubt that the demands put on existing governance systems have changed—and continue to change—as the early 21st century seems to enter a period of profound uncertainty. The aftermath of the 2008 financial crisis is a case in point, as is the inability of the international community to reach agreement on major issues such as the environment or freedom of information. The Report explores such challenges, the possible reasons behind seemingly lacklustre responses, the trade-offs various actors face, and governance innovations that promise improvement. Global Policy invites you to subscribe to our updates and social media accounts for all of the latest updates on the Report. For more information on the launch please click here.

"The Governance Report aims to bridge the gap between academia, policymakers and the many stakeholders involved in the thrill and tribulation of governance at all levels."

Prof. Dr. Horst Köhler, Former Federal President of Germany,
Author, Foreword, The Governance Report 2013
